The Empty Cup Runneth Over

Submitted by Fight Pink Team on Tuesday, 17 March 2009No Comment

The Empty Cup Runneth Over is a book written by Author and Breast Cancer Survivor Cindy Papale.  Cindy wrote The Empty Cup Runneth Over, published by Dorrance Publishing Company, to better help educate high school and college women and men about breast cancer.  The book is written in a dialogue that is easy and even humorous in many chapters.

While speaking with Cindy, I found her to be an amazing person.  She is very caring and giving of herself.  Cindy is able to transfer her personality into her book, and share her Breast Cancer experience.  She is dedicated to helping inform High School and College students on the effects of Breast Cancer.  One very important aspect of her book was her ablility to draw together an amazing group of specialists who also write chapters on everything you would ever want to know about Breast Cancer. Although it is written especially for high school and college students, the information in here would help anyone navigating through the struggles of breast cancer, or wanting to understand them.

What People are saying about The Empty Cup Runneth Over:

Lynn Redgrave: Actor and Breast Cancer survivor

“A hopeful, informative and deeply emotional walk through the world of breast cancer.”

Marisa Arocella Marchetto, author of CANCER VIXEN

“I salute Cindy Papale for transforming the “v” word from  ”Victim” to “Vixen”, and for using her creativity and transform the life-threatening into something very life-affirming.”

Cristie Kerr, LPGA Professional and daughter of Breast cancer survivor

“When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer I was 23 years old. We all had a lot of anxiety and wanted answers “now”. Cindy’s book provides step by step of what to expect and is a great resource for young people who are afraid to ask why, when, or how. Fortunately, for my mother, her breast cancer was caught early and she is now cancer free. When we are all educated about the disease we are much closer to bringing it to an end.”

Sandra Peebles, Health and Lifestyle Reporter, UNIVISION 23, Miami, Florida

“The Empty Cup Runneth Over is an excellent guide through the dark and difficult experience of dealing with breast cancer. The authors offer a unique step by step guide not only through the medical experience, but through the emotional challenges as well. Perhaps the best thing this book has to offer is that it teaches the “victim” to take control and be a strong informed survivor.”

Vince Papale, (Cindy Papale’s cousin) former Philadelphia Eagle and author to the book “Invincible” and subjet of the movie “Invincible” starring Mark Walberg

“In my days during and after football I found out the hard way one that no one is truly Invincible. When I heard from my doctor that I had cancer I felt as if I had just received the biggest blow I ever received on or off the field. As Cindy so passionately recalls in her book I ran through the whole gamut of emotions as well! The Empty Cup Runneth Over is a great read, and a must read … survivor or not. Told from the heart, with humor and sincerity, Cindy takes you on an unforgettable journey from prevention to survival. Added to her personal account is tremendous advice from experts in the field. Cindy’s dream, like ours, is to find the cure. Too many of us have paid the ultimate price to make this dream come true. Don’t miss out on reading The Empty Cup Runneth Over.”

Dr. Pedro J. Greer, Jr., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.G., author of Waking Up In America

This book is a wonderful read. It is not just a story of Cindy and how she dealt with her cancer or a book about prevention and treatments, but more than that, a wonderful ride on the Papale philosophy of life. Read the book, follow its recommendations and we will all live better.”

About the Author

Cindy Papale – Bio

Cindy Papale was born and raised on Long Island, New York and is currently the administrative assistant at the University of Miami Psychological Services Center. Her twenty five years at the university includes twelve years at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Department of Surgery, where she worked for a breast surgeon.

In July 2000, Cindy’s life changed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her story is a moving account of how one woman took a traumatic life experience and used it to help save other lives. The message she is taking to high school, college, and other young men and women is that breast cancer does not affect only older women.

Cindy Papale has now lectured to over sixty thousand students, has been on the front cover of the Miami Herald’s “Neighbors” section and Miami Cancer Magazine, and has been chosen for the 2006 Strike Out Cancer Hall of Fame. Cindy’s story also appeared in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Quest Magazine in 2007, and in October, 2008 Cindy appeared on channel 6 South Florida Today Show.

Cindy also discusses being single and sharing with her family and friends her experiences in an article about Communicating with Your Loved Ones about breast Cancer released in the Living Beyond Breast Cancer newsletter in October, 2007.

Cindy continues to lecture and appears on local TV and radio.  She also is beginning to write her second book as well.
