Hitchhiking with Larry David by Paul Samuel Dolman

hitchhiking2September 8, 2010–Las Vegas, Nevada– Normally… we showcase authors on Fight Pink that are Breast Cancer survivors, or survivors of some sort of cancer.  Today, however, we are showcasing an author and a book that isn’t about Breast cancer, or any cancer in fact, but it is about Survivorship of sorts.

Today’s in the Authors Corner  is Author Paul Samuel Dolman.  Writer of the hilariously funny book entitled “Hitchhiking with Larry David.” I stumbled upon it in my Facebook searches, however haphazard, and I believe..well I know, that everything happens for a reason.  I honestly didn’t know who Larry David was, and unlike the author Paul, have probably seen every episode of  Seinfeld, yet none of Curb your Enthusium.  Larry David is the creator of each show.

What is this book about??  One bright summer day on Martha’s Vineyard, the author Paul Samuel Dolman stuck out his thumb, and the comedic icon Larry David pulled over and asked, “You’re not a serial killer or something, are you?” This seemingly insignificant encounter set in motion a series of serendipitous events. “Hitchhiking With Larry David” is a heartwarming tale chronicling the heartbreak of family, the joy of living, and the loss of love. This perfect balance of comedy, tragedy, and romance will leave you laughing and crying on the same page as well as pondering the mystery and magic of life. So sit, back relax and enjoy the ride…

Who is Paul Samuel Doleman?  Paul has a gift for meeting people in a comfortable and engaging way, and for truly hearing them. This has led to a life of remarkable interactions and magical moments. Whether rubbing elbows with power players in the music or entertainment industries, or interviewing unique individuals for a show or book, or simply sitting with a new friend at a coffee house, Paul’s charisma and love always seem to bring out the glorious essence of the people he’s with. So put a guy like this on a road in Martha’s Vineyard with his thumb out and you are in for quite a ride!

Once I read the first couple of chapters in his book, I was hooked.  Hook, line and sinker!  I would have loved to have this book on my nightstand, while I was recovering from the dreaded “C”.  We all need a place to escape to, even if for a moment by daydreaming, or surfing the internet, or walking on the beach, or reading a great book!  I emailed Paul on his website, of course aptly named Hitchhiking with Larry David, and let him know how I felt about his amazing book!

Below is an excerpt from my email with Paul:

….You took me on a journey.  You took me on YOUR soul searching journey, however imperfect or perfect, it was awesome.  You brought me in your kitchen with your mom, and in your living room with your dad.  You made my mouth water for that great piece of Pizza, and I swear I could smell the sea air and feel the breeze as you walked down the road hitchin’.  I couldn’t wait to see who pulled up next,  and how you interacted with whomever came your way.  Pig Pen, made me uncomfortable for you. I wanted you to get out of that truck, the second you got in.   One thing that I found interesting, was how people you didn’t even know invited you back to their place.

It’s all about the energy you project, and like you said even if you were a serial killer, you were on the Vineyard, on vacation!

I believe that we could all learn a little bit or even a lot about ourselves, by picking up a copy of this heartwarming story.  I believe that this book would be a great addition to anyones nightstand, purse, or pocket!  It’s that good!  Anyone out there recovering from Cancer, pick up a copy and be prepared to go on a journey, filled with laughter, fun, adventure and really good Pizza with a splash of salt air and sunsets!
