This Times a Charm by Donald Wilhelm

Well folks this is Blog Book Tour Round 2!

This time Fight Pink will be kicking off the Blog Book Tour with Donald Wilhelm, author of This Times A Charm: Lessons of a Four-Time Cancer Survivor. I honestly couldn’t tell you how I found Donald, and in my first email exchange with him, I told him so.  He just laughed.  I asked him if he would like to be interviewed for the Fight Pink Soundboard, and he was excited at the thought of sharing his story.  In our next email, I talked with him about doing a Blog Book Tour.  He wasn’t quite sure what that was, but when I had him take a look at Dr. Chad Mourtray’s Blog he was all in for the idea!

I don’t know Donald as of yet, but I can tell you this…he is one to hit the ground running and honestly not even look back! Donald said, “May I run with this idea from my end in order to get as many bloggers involved in my event as possible?” That right there, made me realize he is the type of guy that literally takes the “bull by the horns” and goes for it!  Have you ever heard of the word “Proactive” well Donald’s picture is right next to the word!

Donald’s blog is well written and amazingly it takes you to a different place, kind of a kick back, easy going place to learn about growth and acceptance. His website is “full of cancer information and inspiration for you to find, develop or grow your own Positive Mental Attitude.” Donald writes, “It’s also a place to learn about cancer, its effects on you and your loved ones, and what its treatments are REALLY like. Are you facing chemotherapy? Radiation treatments? A stem cell or bone marrow transplant? Whether we’re talking about lung, lymphoma, skin, breast, prostate, brain, cervical, leukemia or the myriad of other cancers that plague our lives, this Website will arm you with information while guiding you with strength, courage and acceptance. Got cancer? You’re not alone. Had cancer? There’s stuff here for you, too. Come on inside…”

I am looking forward to reading Donald’s book and sharing with our Fight Pink readers how Donald has been able to keep such an amazing positive attitude throughout his journey through Cancer.

About Donald

Donald Wilhelm was born in Petoskey, Michigan in 1970. He attended Petoskey High School, graduating in 1989. He then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan and received his Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Western Michigan University in 1994. He began his career as a stockbroker, before eventually settling in to the Information Technology field.

He currently lives in St. Clair Shores, Michigan and is married to his wonderful wife Amy.

As a four-time lymphoma survivor, Donald offers up his real-life experiences for those newly diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones. An emotional roller coaster, This Time’s a Charm takes readers through what it’s like to have cancer four times in just 5 years.

And without a doubt, there is one thing that people you run into, who know you have cancer, do more often than anything else…they lean in towards you, put their hand on your arm or shoulder, and say in a very slow and deliberate manner, “How…arrrrrre…you?” I now just have my own fun with them. My favorite response is, “Well, would you like the small-talk answer or the whole-truth-so-help-me-God one?” Then I quickly follow that up with a big reassuring smile and a, “I’m fine, thank you. How are you?”
